Jrs Coach Jax Kerowhack

April has been playing roller derby for over 5 years and nearly all of her family is involved in derby in some way! Her fiancé, 4 children, 3 grand-children, and niece all play derby. Her parents are both NSO’s and jr derby coaches. Her sister is a referee and her aunt and soon-to-be in-laws also volunteer for the team! April discovered derby when she heard about a woman and her mom who played and thought if this other grown woman’s mom could do it, maybe she could too! April has served in every possible role for CKRD in the past, but this past season decided to play with ICT Roller Derby full-time. She currently co-coaches the jr derby team, Yellow Brick Rollers, and bouts with CKRD when available. When asked what she loves most about derby, April said, “Roller derby is FUN to play, but most importantly, it inspires me to care for myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I’ve found that if I’m not caring for any aspect of myself, the detriment shows up on the track. It has also taught me to love and accept myself and my body for how it is right now, and all the things it does for me. I’ve found a subtle confidence that affects every part of my life.
